Bollywood Movies that failed miserably at the Box Office

1: Besharam

The movie starring Ranbir Kapoor was directed by the Dabbang fame Abhinav Kashyap and was released after the humongous success of the movie "Yeh Jawani hain Deewani". The movie released on 2nd October 2013 which was a national holiday and got a bumper opening of 21 crores. The numbers were huge and it felt like the movie is going to take Ranbir's career to new heights however all speculations went in vain. The movie did receive an amazing opening but the movie was panned down by critics and the people for a loose storyline and a lot of loo breaks. This further resulted in a negative word of mouth among the people. The movie's box office collections went down by 60 -70 percent on the very next day of release. The movie could only collect 59 Crores in the two weeks run at the box office and was ultimately declared a flop

2: Fan

The theme of the movie was built around the stardom of SRK, however, the irony is that the movie made a dent in his stardom. The movie having Shahrukh Khan as the leading man and the talented director Band Baaja Baraat fame Maneesh Sharma failed to deliver at the box office. The movie couldn't even cross 100 crore mark at the Indian box office and that made it fall under the biggest setbacks in the career of Shahrukh Khan whose peers were delivering 300-500 crore movies. The major turn-offs in the movie were a hollow storyline, boring chase sequences, and a predictive climax. So, the movie proved that it doesn't matter who is starring in the movie, until and unless the movie has a binding storyline and entertainment quotient it cannot taste success at the box office. The movie did a decent box office collection of 52.35 crores in the first weekend however in the second week it witnessed a remarkable decline of 85% and could only collect 7.75 crores in the second weekend. The movie did a lifetime collection of 188 crores, all thanks to the Shahrukh Khan star power overseas.

3: Bombay Velvet

Bombay Velvet is an elite example of how big budget movies having top-notch star cast fails to deliver in the absence of a solid storyline. The movie was a period drama based on the famous book Mumbai Fables. The movie was released in the year 2015. The movie starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles made a lot of ripples in the media prior to its release as it was introducing Karan Johar as an antagonist in the movie. The movie was directed by Anurag Kashyap and was expected to take the box office by storm. The movie was made on a lavish budget of 120 crores and stakes were high for the producers. The movie was panned down by the critics and audience simultaneously that resulted in a poor box office collection of mere 22 crores in the first week of its release and its box office run ended at 42 crores which were way too low than the expected numbers by the Trade Pandits. The movie was undoubtedly the biggest disaster of the year 2015 and in the careers of Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar, and Anurag Kashyap.

The above three box office debacles proved to the world that content is the king and how important the word of mouth is in the success of any movie at the box office.
